Military sources told APA that Georgia plans to produce the modernized versions of SU-25 aircrafts at the Tbilisi Aerospace Manufacturing Company (TAM). Tbilisi has addressed Azerbaijan for financing the project and establishing joint production. The Azerbaijani military circles welcomed the proposal, but the government will make a final decision.

If the project is implemented, certain part of the aircrafts may be produced at the military plants of Azerbaijan.

According to official information, Azerbaijan purchased 13 Su-25 (12 Su-25 and 1 Su-25 UB) attack aircrafts from Georgia in 2002-2003. These aircrafts were produced in TAM plant as a part of the program implemented jointly with Israel’s Elbit Systems company. After modernization Su-25 was renamed as “Scorpion”.

Georgia-made fighter jets are tested in Azerbaijan with the participation of Azerbaijani pilots. Georgia also sold Su-25 aircrafts to Congo, repaired Su-25 aircrafts of Turkmenistan’s Military Air Forces.

Up to now, TAM plant has produced 900 Su-25 aircrafts.
