The President noted that the main works on the project will be implemented by the end of this year. “This project is realized on the initiative of Azerbaijani government. We have given both political support to this project and also undertaken major part of financing. But now we see that the project has already exceeded regional scope. People, who were against this project, now support it”.
The president noted that Azerbaijan faced a question that “why Armenia is not a part of this project” during the discussions of the project with partners: “Even there was issue on the table that international support will not be given to the project unless Armenia becomes the part of this project”. Despite all these, as a result of joint wills of Azerbaijani, Georgian and Turkish governments, we are realizing this project and it will be realized. Armenia is isolated from this project. This is our principal position. Armenia can not be part of any regional project while our territories are under occupation. The realization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is a historical event.”
