Two employees of Azerbaijan's Taxes Ministry arrested over AZN 250 000 bribe

Press service of the Prosecutor General's Office told APA that on February 13, 2013, executive director of "Neftchi" housing construction company Safarli Azer Rashid sent a complaint to the the Ministry of Taxes regarding the illegal actions of the employees of Taxes Auditing Department. Initial investigations revealed corruption in their actions, the materials were sent to the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General.


As a result of the measures taken jointly with the Department for Organized Crimes in Economic Sphere of the Ministry of Taxes, it was revealed that while inspecting the observation of the taxes legislation at "Neftchi" housing construction company, Karimov Sultan Elkhan, state taxes inspector of the Repair-Construction Auditing Unit of the Taxes Auditing Department under the Ministry of Taxes and state taxes inspector of the same department Allahverdiyev Aydin Suleyman demanded AZN 300 000 bribe to cover the wrong declarations and other irregularities revealed there, on January 29, 2013, executive director of the company Azer Safarli and chief accountant Ilgar Jafarov gave them AZN 250 000 in the office of the company in Narimanov district, Baku. The inspectors shared the money. The houses of Karimov and Allahverdiyev were searched, AZN 115 000 and AZN 125 000 were found in their houses and seized.

They have faced charges under articles 311.3.1 and 311.3.3 (bribery) of the Criminal Code, have been sentenced to pre-trial detention.
Investigation is underway.
