At the end of last year the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee passed a decision on holding the first European Olympic Games in Baku,” Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said making a closing speech at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the outcomes of socio-economic development of 2012 and tasks lying ahead in 2013, APA reports.
The Head of State said this is a serious event and at the same time the display of Azerbaijan’s recent activities, high-level international image.
“This shows that Azerbaijan is recognized as the economically and politically stable country. This is a great responsibility, great honor and great confidence. I have no doubt that feeling this responsibility with dignity we will carry out all necessary activities and host the European Olympic Games on the level of the International Olympic Games.
The decision on establishing organizing committee will be passed in the near future and the work must be started immediately. Of course, the government agencies have to actively participate in these activities. All spheres - infrastructure, transport, security, tourism should be involved. We will show the world again that Azerbaijan has great potential for receiving guests. Azerbaijan is almost the symbol of hospitality in the region. We have all opportunities and will introduce Azerbaijan to the world again as a powerful and modern country.”
