Baku – APA. “Struggle against corruption and bribery must be strengthened more. A lot of achievements have been gained in this field recently,” Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said making a closing speech at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the outcomes of socio-economic development of 2012 and tasks lying ahead in 2013, APA reports.

The Head of State underlined that this policy will be continued expediently, various tools are used for this.

“Of course, special attention is given to punishments, administrative measures, our merciless struggle in this field will be continued. I give instructions to the relevant government agencies once more that struggle against corruption and bribery must be strengthened, we must eliminate this problem. Moreover, institutional, systematic measures must be and are being taken. Among them special attention is given to the issues on switching to e-services. As stated, Azerbaijan has recently gained great achievements in ICT. This is both business and intellect. At the same time, this sphere gives impetus to innovation and transparency. We must use these opportunities more widely. The number of e-services must be increased. Public control must be strengthened. Transparency must be ensured perfectly. I am sure that punishments, administrative, institutional measures will continue helping us in struggle against corruption. At the end of last year we managed to establish a new body comprising all important spheres. “ASAN service” is started functioning and it comprises the factor that I have mentioned – innovation, service to the people, fight against corruption, transparency, modernity. Our country should develop just in this direction. To achieve progress, of course, we must pay serious attention to the development of workforce capacity.

I’m very pleased that now young and modern personnel are beginning to work and grow in various places in Azerbaijan. They have been brought up in the spirit of patriotism, at the same time they are well-educated. They are our future. A strong workforce capacity must be developed to manage our country successfully in the future. We are using a variety of means to achieve this goal. As you know, we support our youth’s study abroad and send them to the leading universities of the developed countries at the expense of the state budget. Naturally, it was a positive initiative and is being continued. But I consider that a system must be established in the country so that there are all opportunities to achieve modern skills. The measures are being taken and will be taken in this sphere. We must involve more young people in the spheres that require new technologies and modern approach.”
