Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. A round table on “The future of Azerbaijan-Turkey relations” was held in the Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) under the Azerbaijani President. APA reports that Azerbaijani and Turkish delegations participated in the event.

The Deputy Director of the Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) Gulshan Pashayeva underlined the special significance of the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations. Rector of the Istanbul University Ahmet Javad, in his speech, spoke about the relations between the countries: “We must determine the threats surrounding us. Azerbaijan is a critic point. Armenian issue is the common problem of Azerbaijan and Turkey. That’s why we must unite our forces and act jointly.”

Javad noted that they are also concerned about the performing “Sari Gəlin” by Turkish singer in Armenian.

Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Rabiyyat Aslanova said that the new stage of the relations has started after collapse of the USSR. She remarked that Turkey recognized independence of Azerbaijan 21 year ago and opened its embassy in Baku: “Today, we must know each other well and determine our potentials. I am member of the delegation to the OSCE. I can say frankly that sometimes we cannot receive the desired assistance from Turkey. The last events show that we need our unity in this sphere.”

Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ganira Pashayeva said that Turkish community has some problems to know Azerbaijan. She stressed the importance of the cooperation of the civil societies of both countries: “We have common problems that concern all of us. The main problem is the Armenian claims. If somebody expects that the Armenian claims of genocide will end in the next 3-5 years he is mistaken. It will not stop even after 50 years. This issue has become the national identity for them. At the same time this problem is our common problem.”

Participants of the meeting expressed their views on the future of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
