Writers Union presents book “Surprise meeting: anthology of contemporary Polish poetry”

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. A presentation of the book “Surprise meeting: anthology of contemporary Polish poetry” took place at Natavan Club of the Azerbaijan Writers Union (AWU) on Thursday. The book’s publication was funded by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, APA reports. AWU secretary, popular writer Chingiz Abdullayev called the publication as a remarkable event in the Azerbaijan’s literature. Polish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhal Labenda said it was important step in rapprochement of the cultures of our people. He called the book as a valuable contribution and expected surprise meeting for the experts and fans of the Polish poetry. One of the translators, poet and “World Literature” editor-in-chief Selim Babullaoglu spoke about the book. He said the book contained 40 poems written by the leaders of the Polish poetry in the 20th century – Czeslaw Milosz and Wislawa Szymborska, Zbigniew Herbert and Tadeus Ruzhevic. It was first two-language poetic anthology published in recent years in Azerbaijan.

The poems were translated by Selim Baullaoglu and Rafail Tagizadeh.
