Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev–APA. Azerbaijani MM has today held the next meeting, APA reports.
MP, Deputy Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), Executive Secretary of the Party Ali Ahmadov sounded proposal on presidential tenure.
“I want to raise issue on presidential tenure. This issue has already been debated by the society for a long time. The fact is that presidency of one person more than twice is a breach of law. This version cannot give chance to electors to state their position”, he added.
Ahmadov underlined that if the condition was not established for a person, who people wanted to elect, they would be obliged to vote for unwished person.
“I propose taking majority of YAP in the Parliament into consideration that this issue should be solved by holding referendum on amendments to the constitution and MM should take this issue into account. I am sure that MM will consider my proposal and raise the issue in one of the next meetings,” he said.
Ahmadov stressed that his position would be supported.
MPs took stance on the proposal. MPs Fazail Ibrahimli, Zahid Oruj, Sabir Hajiyev, Eva Mammadova, Mubariz Gurbanli, Siyavush Novruzov and Ganira Pashayeva supported the proposal. Novruzov added that the issue should be solved late in 2008. Gurbanli mentioned existence of proposals on constitutional reforms in the society.
MP Sabir Rustamkhanli stated that the issue would be considered in 2010.
MP Fazil Mustafa stressed that proportional election system should be debated as well.
Arzu Samadbayli, member of Musavat Party was against the proposal and stated that YAP attempted to distract attention from current problems in the country and noted that the issue was against democracy.
Speaker Ogtay Asadov summarized the debates and stressed that presented proposals should be submitted to proper commission.
“Then the issue can be considered”, he added.
