Leader of Christian-Baptist religious community in Zagatala released

Zagatala Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Hamid Shabanov, the leader of Christian-Baptist religious community in Zagatala, who was accused of keeping illegal arms and arrested, has been released.

Shabanov’s family told APA that Zagatala Region Court passed a decision to commute his sentence to 14-day house arrest taking into account lack of evidences. The next hearing will be held on November 17.

Zagatal Region Police Office told APA that Shabanov is under police control.

1 Makarov pistol, its spare parts and 37 banned religious books were found in the house of Hamid Shabanov, the leader of Christian-Baptist religious community in Zagatala on June 22. He faced charges under article 228 (Illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation and carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies, explosives) of the Criminal Code.
