Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA-ECONOMICS. Baku has today held a conference discussing prospects of the New Eurasian Land Transport Initiative (NELTI), a proposed road bridge from China to Europe as alternative to the maritime transport routes.
Top officers from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, Azerbaijan International Road Transporters Associations, State Customs Committee, Caspian Shipping Company, TRACECA and relative bodies of Georgia and Uzbekistan attended the event.
The IRU-suggested NELTI envisions reviving the Great Silk Road, the most ancient international transport route which over the centuries connected Europe and Asia.
This corridor is more efficient and feasible than a proposed alternative that would go to Europe via Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran.
IRU General Delegate to the CIS, Igor Runov, said that the NELTI means a strong, and cost-efficient, alternative for transporting goods between China and Europe.
Besides, some part of this route coincides with the TRACECA corridor, an existing international transport corridor through 12 countries at present.
Javid Najafov, Officer of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, said that Azerbaijan takes deep interest in this transportation project which will increase cargo transit via its territory.
