CIS Observation Mission: “The elections were legitimate, open and transparent”

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Head of CIS Observation Mission, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, who followed the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, announced the mission’s statement on the outcomes of the elections at the press conference, APA reports.
The statement notes that 394 observers of the mission followed the elections. 23 of them had made long-term observation in Azerbaijan since August 1. The observers followed the voting in all 125 ConECs, 3726 polling stations. Lebedev said according to CIS Observation Mission technical preparation for the election was well-organized, 10 percent of the polling stations was provided with web cameras. The statement says that CIS Observation Mission also recorded some irregularities.
“In the 8th polling station of ConEC #77 it was not checked whether all the voters’ fingers had been inked. In the 4th polling station of ConEC #28 at the request of old voters the members of the commission helped them to fill in the ballot papers. In the 19th polling station of ConEC #29 OSCE observer entered the polling booth, and this is a serious violation of law,” he said.
CIS Observation Mission said the presidential elections had been held basing on the norms of the election legislation.
“The elections were legitimate, open and transparent.”
Head of CIS Parliamentary Assembly Mission Svetlana Orlova told the press conference that the mission had included 33 parliamentarians from 7 CIS countries. Orlova noted that Azerbaijani voters, particularly women were very active in the elections. She said the elections had been held in line with Azerbaijani legislation meeting international standards. Svetlana Orlova also said that inking of voters’ fingers was inadmissible for Azerbaijan, the democratic leader of the region. Head of the mission hoped that amendment would be made to Azerbaijani legislation in connection with it.
