Berlin – APA. European Union may hold a special international conference on the situation in Georgia, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, APA reports. She said along with the EU countries, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Ukraine might be invited to the conference, too.
The conference aims at helping solve Georgia’s economic difficulties and restore its infrastructure. Merkel said that Russia would not be invited to the conference.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy called an extraordinary meeting of the European Union on the developments in Georgia on September 1. APA reports quoting French president’s press service that the union’s 27 member states will discuss aid to Georgia and main principles of the relations with Russia. Though Russia announced that the process of withdrawal of troops from Georgia completed on August 22¸some European countries accuse official Moscow of disobeying the items of the ceasefire agreement.
