Mammad Eyvazov: We should take maximum advantage of Cuba team’s absence in the world championship

Azerbaijan national boxing team head coach Mammad Eyvazov was interviewed by APA-SPORT

- How well is Azerbaijan team prepared for the world championship? Do you have nay concerns about the world championship?
- Our boxers are well prepared for the world championship. There is no injured member in the team. My only concern is over adaptation of the national team. I hope we will solve this problem. We leave fir Chicago three days ago.
- Psychological training is an issue of first importance in such competitions…
- Of course it is. That is why we paid special attention to this issue. The meetings with the Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov and the Federation leadership inspired our sportsmen.
- As far as we know the team’s goals includes gaining five licences. How real is this goal?
- Lets not predict. Any result is possible in sport. We can gain more licences if we are lucky with the draw. The world championship in wrestling held in Baku is a good example of how sport can surprise
- In any case we want to know your opinions as a head coach. What result will satisfy you?
- While in Russia one of the officials of the Russian Boxing Federation said Azerbaijan team is ready to gain licences in all weight classes. I also think so. But the reality is quite different. We can not say what will happen after ten days. We have the leading boxers as Samir Mammadov, Romal Amanov, Shahin İmranov, Emil Maharramov, Ruslan Khairov and Elchin Alizada. They are known as successful athletes. I myself will be satisfied with 4 licences.
- Do you have concerns over judgement?
- AIBA’s new president Vu is taking necessary steps in this field. I think removal of Caner Doganeli who abused his power in this issue is a positive case. I think there will be no serious judge mistakes in this world championship. We just want fair judgement
- You will agree with me in that Cuba’s absence in the world championship will give to extra superiority to us…
- Of course it should not be denied. We should take maximum advantage of Cuba team’s absence in any tournament. The world championship is the main qualifier for the Beijing Olympic Games. We need to win three consecutive rounds advancing to quarter final as it will be difficult to do it in other qualified tournaments./APA-SPORT/
