Azerbaijani President meets with UNESCO Director General

Baku – APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova on July 29. According to APA, President Aliyev welcomed Ms. Bokova and congratulated on her new office. The president said he was very pleased that as the UNESCO Director General, Ms Bokova made one of her first foreign visits to Azerbaijan. Touching upon recent joint projects, President Aliyev said these positive tendencies would be continued and he believed that active cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO would be extended.
Bokova said it was important to visit this country on early days of her mission as the UNESCO Director General. She emphasized good cooperation between Azerbaijan and her organization. Bokova said UNESCO Good Will Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva is highly esteemed among members of her organization. She highly appreciated Mehriban Aliyeva’s contribution to the development of culture, music, traditions and heritage.
Touching upon the significance of Azerbaijan-UNESCO joint projects, President Aliyev said there were important plans in this field. The Head of State said he believed the UNESCO Director General’s visit to Azerbaijan would give new impetus to the development of cooperation.
