Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. “The Madrid principles on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict were not proposed by Azerbaijan, this is not the position formed, proposed by Azerbaijan.
The West formed these proposals, they were prepared by the co-chairs,” chief of international relations department of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov said in his interview to the website of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), APA reports. Novruz Mammadov said at first Azerbaijan was not satisfied with the Madrid principles.
“Therefore, Azerbaijan’s some proposals were added to the document. After the discussions that lasted for a year and a half we accepted the Madrid principally. Then the Armenian side approved the Madrid principles. Now there is a strange situation. After Azerbaijan accepted the Madrid principles Armenia changed its position. Why the west does not exert pressure on Armenia for its changing position? Actually the cause of the situation is that the Armenian side does not intend to demonstrate constructive position on the settlement of the conflict and put an end to the problem. They should understand that at present Armenia needs the fair solution to the problem most. Therefore, they should think about their future and prevent their future tragedies. The rightest way for Armenia is to demonstrate constructive position and ensure solution to the conflict,” he said.
Novruz Mammadov said that the co-chairs will visit the region after meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister.
“The co-chairs may visit the region to report to the presidents about the progress made after the Sochi meeting,” he said.
