Russian boat crashes in Azerbaijani sector of Caspian Sea

Baku – APA. MRS Kayakend fishing boat owned by Dagestan-based Grand Company of Russian federation caught fire near the Chilov Island of the Caspian Sea at about 01.33 last night, APA reports quoting the official website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan.
The ministry’s Crisis Control Center received information about the accident and two firefighting vessels watched the area were immediately sent to the site and relevant organizations were informed about that.
15 crew members on board could be saved using the rescue boats while the fishing boat was submerging. The rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescued six of fishermen and nine others were rescued by the Caspian Oil Fleet boats. The Ministry of Emergency Situations sent a helicopter to the site as well.
Despite difficult weather conditions relevant measures were taken to tug the Russian fishing boat to the coast.
Azerbaijan National Maritime Administration told APA that they received SOS by Kayakend’s captain Abubakirov. 16 fishermen were rescued by the forces of Azerbaijan Oil Fleet and Ministry of Emergency Situations at about 02.00.
The fire was completely extinguished. The boat will be tugged to Baku port for investigation of the accident reasons.
