A new passage will unite buildings of Azerbaijan State Art Museum

The construction of the passage that will unite the first and second buildings of Azerbaijan State Art Museum named after Rovshan Mustafayev has started, director of the museum Israfil Israfilov told journalists, APA reports. He said the overhauled second building of the museum is favorable for holding international exhibitions.
“Before, we had limited conditions to hold such events. The overhaul solved this problem. It gave a second breath to the Art Museum. The number of international events and exhibitions will increase. We have a contract with Louvre museum. Such events will be held beginning from 2010,” he said.
Israfilov noted that the overhaul of the first building will start after the passage between the two buildings is constructed.
“The foundation of the building has already been laid. The overhaul of the first building will start at the beginning of next year. Cost estimating documents of the second building are being prepared. The goal is that the architectural appearance of the buildings should not be changed. The number of the exposition halls will be increased, the area extended,” he said.
Israfil Israfilov said various works and collections were bought for the museum.
“The belongings, archives of some artists were given to the museum. We bought the works by outstanding artists. We bought all the works by world-famous Azerbaijani artist Mirjavad at the expenses of the Culture and Tourism Ministry. This is a great achievement and it will continue,” he said.
