Baku – APA. Polish foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski called on the United States to deploy its troops in the territory of Poland to defend it against possible threat from Russia. During the news conference in Washington, Sikorski reminded about the recent military exercises jointly held by Russia and Belarus involving hundreds of tanks near the Poland’s borders, APA reports quoting Reuters. He said there were only six U.S. soldiers in Poland now. “There are 900 tanks on one side and only six soldiers on other. Could you be calm in this situation?”
Sikorski said when Poland joined NATO, Russia was assured that the alliance wouldn’t deploy large military group in the Eastern Europe. “In that time, no one thought that troops will not be sent to the Eastern Europe at all. I consider that it should be done”.
Russian-Belarusian Zapad 2009 exercise caused serious concern in Poland. Local newspapers said that they tested protection of Northern Flow pipeline, airborne insert near Polish coasts and nuclear shipment on board of planes during the exercises.
