Azerbaijani border guards neutralized illegal sturgeon fishing group on the Caspian

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. A criminal group seriously damaging bio-resources of the Caspian Sea by illegal fishing of sturgeon was detained on October 22 by the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, press service of the Service told APA.
Residents of Neftchala region of Azerbaijan Ahmadov Rahim Adalat, 51, Sadigov Arzu Aghadadash, 33, Abuzarobv Aghakishi Khanhuseyn, 49, Sultanov Vusal Nadir, 30 and Salahov Gudrat Ibadulla, 35, who shipped out for illegal fishing of sturgeon on the sea near Kurdand village of the region, were detained by the border guards on the bank of Kura River when they returned from the fishing. During the investigation, 2 675 kg of sturgeons, including 1157 kg beluga, 169 kg long-nose fish, as well as, one fish-detector, one GPS-72 navigator, 100 kg anchovy, one compass, 43 fuel tanks, 14 fuel filters, 29 boxes of hooks banned in fishery, a map of the Caspian Sea, binocular, small and large anchors, other fishing equipments, foods and clothes for long-time being on the sea were found on the boats.
The State Border Service’s investigation department launched criminal investigation and the detainees were brought to justice and arrested for preliminary detention.
The State Border Service said it would continue measures to prevent illegal actions damaging natural and bio-resources of the Caspian Sea by illegal fishing and use of banned fishing equipments.
