State Customs Committee prevents smuggling of a great deal of narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. Azerbaijani State Customs Committee continues taking measures to combat smuggling. Press service of the State Customs Committee told APA that the Main Department to Combat Law Violations in Customs received information about smuggling of narcotics from Iran to Azerbaijan. As a result of the operations, 19.860 kg opium smuggled by Iranian citizen Asad Karim Tavakkoli Kordlar and Azerbaijani Rafig Mahammad Babashov were found in 21 packages hidden in the dump in Mushfigabad settlement of Absheron region.
Investigation Department of the State Customs Committee has launched criminal case on the fact on article 206.3.2, 234.4.1 and 234.4.3.
The investigation found out that Rafig Babashov, Azad Karim Tavakkoli Kordlar and unidentified Rehmet, Mirgiyas and Akif agreed to smuggle a great deal of drugs. 19.860 kg opium smuggled by Mirgiyas was kept by Babashov in his house in Uzeyir Hajibayov street,9, Shamakhy. Later, under the instruction of Mirgiyas, Babashov and Tavakkoli Kordlar agreed to sell the opium to a man called Akif for $37,000. Babashov packed in opium in the plastic sacks and together with Tavakkoli Kordlar brought to 35km of Baku-Shamakhy highway to sell. They were detained by the officers of the Main Department to Combat Law Violations in Customs. Babashov and Asad Karim Tavakkoli Kordlar faced related charges and Yasamal district court passed a decision on their arrest.
The transport department of the Astara Customs Office found out 25 cardboard boxes with “Sunflower” inscription in the passenger bus driven by Bahaddin Oruc Guliyev from the Islamic Republic of Iran. 30 kg 200 g hashish tar was discovered in three of the boxes.
As a result of operation conducted by the State Customs Committee Head Office for Combating Customs Law Violations, the hashish tar was brought to Sabunchu district of Baku. Azerbaijani citizens Vusal Mammadov, Amil Aliyev and Shakir Nadirov were detained while first two received the drug from the passenger bus and loaded it to Nadirov’s car.
The investigators discovered that Vusal Mammadov criminally conspired with Oktay, unknown person, about the storage, sale of drug and bypassing the customs service. Oktay received the drug from unknown sources in Iran and sent it by bus, which was received by Vusal Mammadov in the territory of Sabunchu district of Baku.
Mammadov was detained as suspect and was charged with articles 206.3.2, 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code at the Yasamal district court of Baku.
The investigation is continued for detention of other members of the criminal group and bringing them to justice.
