World Azerbaijanis Congress co-chair meets with Canada PEN Organizations’ former chairman

On Saturday, co-chairman of the World Azerbaijanis Congress, poet and member of the parliament Sabir Rustamkhanli met with world-known novelist and former president of Canada PEN Organization Reza Baraheni and other 12 well-known Azerbaijani writers living in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Sweden. The writers visited Azerbaijan to see its strengthening and development, to learn the state of national literature, said Rustamkhanli. They also intend to see the essence of Armenia’s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan.
The guests visited the memorials of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, founder of South Azerbaijan national government in 1945-46 Seyid Jafar Pishavari, leader of National Freedom Movement, ex-president of Azerbaijan Abulfas Elchibey at the Alley of Honor and the Alley of Martyrs as well. Then Rustamkhanli read out the Baku Declaration of World Azerbaijanis Congress, Azebaijan Federal Democratic Movement and a group of South Azerbaijani intellectuals living abroad. The Declaration informed the international community about the Iran’s assimilation policy against the Azeri Turks divided as a result of historic injustice and violation of human rights in the South Azerbaijan. I also called on the international organizations to assist the lifting of results of Armenia’s invasion against Azerbaijan and solution to Karabakh problem on the basis of international law. It also urged to develop cultural relations between the South Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijan and to popularize the Azerbaijani culture in the countries where they live.
The guests met with the chairman of Azerbaijan Writers Union Anar, who presented to Reza Bahareni a diploma of Union’s honorable member. The writers also met with the vice president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Arif Hashimov and chairman of the State Committee for Diaspora Activities Nazim Ibrahimov.
