Body of editor-in-chief of Tolishi Sedo newspaper Novruzali Mammadov who died in jail handed over to his family

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. The body of former department chief of Linguistics Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, editor-in-chief of the Tolishi Sedo newspaper Novruzali Mammadov, who died in the medical facility of Justice Ministry, was handed over to his family, lawyer Ramiz Mammadov told APA.
Ramiz Mammadov said the body was taken to Erchivan village of Astara region and buried there.
Novruzali Mammadov died in Justice Ministry’s medical facility yesterday. Spokesman for Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service Mehman Sadigov told APA that Novruzali Mammadov suffered several diseases. He was transferred to the medical facility in July.
“He was examined there and his treatment began. Yesterday he suddenly felt bad and died. The initial diagnosis is thrombosis in brain vessels. The exact diagnosis will be known after the forensic medical examination,” he said.
Novruzali Mammadov had faced charges under articles 274 (high treason) and 283 (stirring up national, racial or religious hostility) of the Criminal Code and was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
