Azerbaijani parliamentarian urges Defense Minister to resign

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev – APA. Parliamentarians touched on a number of problems while discussing the current issues in the parliament’s extraordinary sitting. MP Fazil Mustafa spoke about media’s attitude towards negative cases in the army. He said some media outlets exaggerate the happenings in the army.
MP Yagub Mahmudov said Georgia disrespected Azerbaijan’s borders.
“One of the magazines in Georgia published a map. The map showed Keshishci mountain, where David Gareji monastery is situated, as the territory of Georgia. Moreover, Iranian websites show Azerbaijan as the territory of Iran. This is disrespect, it contradicts neighborhood relations. It should be discussed in the parliament,” he said.
Speaker Ogtay Asadov said there was a need to investigate it.
“It may be a provocation. The documents should be investigated,” he said.
Parliamentarians Igbal Agazadeh, Jamil Hasanli, Panah Huseyn offered to remove the issue on amendments to the law on NGOs from the parliament’s agenda. They said the society protested against the amendments, the adoption of the document contradicted Azerbaijan’s international image. Panah Huseyn noted that the proposed amendments were groundless.
“The initiators have nothing to say,” he said.
Agazadeh said about 400 Azerbaijanis had been deported from Georgia in the past month.
“These pressures should be stopped,” he said.
MP Elmira Akhundova proposed to tighten the law on road traffic and to free the drivers from the responsibility for the accidents in highways. Speaker Asadov said the issue was negotiated with the Interior Ministry and the law would be tightened.
MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev expressed dissatisfaction with the speeches about the inflation of army topics in the press. “If the officer betrayed the soldier to the enemy, the commander of such army must resign”. He also called on the parliament to send a letter of protest to US Congress. “They assist the separatist junta. They recognize our territorial integrity and on the other hand, they stimulate the separatism”.
MP Siyavush Novruzov said amendments to the law on NGOs considered providing of transparency. He said only non-registered NGO’s protested these amendments.
MP Zeynab Khanlarova proposed to restore the house-museum of people’s poet Samad Vurgun. “I attended the funeral of Vurgun’s daughter and saw bad conditions of Vurguns’ house-museum. I traveled around the world and saw that people over the world know Azerbaijan for Samad Vurgun as well”.
