Pope representative: Khojaly genocide ‘biggest injustice against humanity’

The Khojaly genocide is the biggest injustice against humanity, said Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Church's Apostolic Prefecture in Azerbaijan Vladimir Fekete.

He made the remarks at the event titled “Khojaly Genocide – bloody memory of the Azerbaijani people!!! Justice For Khojaly!” held at the CMO office Feb. 21, APA reported.

Fekete stressed that people suffered genocide in Khojaly and he will never slacken his prayers for the victims.

He noted that the ones responsible for committing sins and injustice by carrying out a crime against humanity in Khojaly will not be left unpunished.

“The Almighty Creator will surely punish them. I will never slacken in prayers for the Azerbaijanis that suffered genocide and injustice in Khojaly,” he said.

On February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces, together with the 366th infantry regiment of Soviet troops, stationed in Khankendi, committed an act of genocide against the population of the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly. As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people were killed as a result of the massacre. Eight families were totally exterminated, 130 children lost one parent and 25 children lost both. A total of 487 civilians became disabled as a result of the onslaught. Some 1,275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.
