Azerbaijan says Armenia’s position impedes political settlement of Karabakh conflict

Armenia’s position impedes a political settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Ambassador Kamil Khasiyev, a representative of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.

He made the remarks at the 15th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Baku on May 8, APA reports.

Speaking about the negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the ambassador said that conflicts such as Nagorno-Karabakh lead to destabilization and insecurity in the region.

Khasiyev recalled that the UN Security Council adopted for resolutions on Nagorno-Karabakh.

“These resolutions condemn the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and express support the country’s territorial integrity,” the ambassador said. “The UN General Assembly also adopted three documents on this issue. In addition, NATO, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and GUAM share the same position. Despite the international community’s conclusion, Armenia continues the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, refuses to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories and prevent the return of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani IDPs to their native lands.”

Khasiyev emphasized that the Armenian army also targets Azerbaijani civilians residing along the contact line of troops.

“In April 2016, Azerbaijani children were also targeted and lost their lives,” he added.
