Shakhriyar Mamedyarov suffers second defeat in Tal memorial


Baku. Kenan Hasanov - APA-Sport. Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov is gradually lagging behind in Mikhail Tal memorial tournament in Moscow, Russia.
The 23-aged was beaten by Eugenie Alekseev (Russia) in the 7th round. This is his second defeat in a row. Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) won over Alexander Morozevich (Russia), Ruslan Ponomaryov (Ukraine) over Alexei Shirov (Spain) and Peter Leko (Hungary) over Gata Kamsky (USA) while Boris Gelfand (Israel) made a draw with Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) in this round. Ivanchuk attained the top position with 5 points in 7 rounds. After taking 4 steps back as a result of two defeats Mamedyarov is ranked the 8th with 3 points now. The encounters of Ponomaryov - Ivanchuk, Morozevich - Kamsky, Shirov - Mamedyarov, Leko - Gelfand, Kramnik – Alekseev will be played today.
The competition will be finished tomorrow. It will be followed by a two-day blitz tournament with 18 attendees.
