Shakhriyar Mamedyarov scores first win in Tal memorial

Baku. Kenan Hasanov – APA-Sport. Azerbaijani grandmaster has scored the first win following the 4 draws in a row in Mikhail Tal memorial in Moscow, Russia.

The 23-year-old beat Gata Kamsky (USA) with blacks in the fifth round. Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov won over Peter Leko (Hungary) as well. The encounters of Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) – Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Boris Gelfand (Israel) – Eugenie Alekseev (Russia), Alexander Morozevich (Russia) – Alexei Shirov (Spain) ended in draws.
Morozevich tops the list with 3.5 points. Mamedyarov is following the leader with 3 points. The players will have a rest today. Morozevich – Ponomariov, Shirov – Alekseev, Leko – Ivanchuk, Kramnik – Kamsky, Mamedyarov – Gelfand will be played tomorrow in rould 6.
The competition will last till August 27. It will be followed by the blitz tournament with the participation of 18 players on August 29-30.
