Azerbaijani boxer became world champion

Baku-APA. World Boxing Championship has been finished in Baku. Apasport.az website reports that the final meetings on 10 weight categories were held in last day of the championship, which was held in Heydar Aliyev Sport-Concert Complex.

Two boxers of the Azerbaijani national team – Teymur Mammadov and Mahammadrasul Majidov were fighting in the final. Though Teymur lost in the final, Mahammadrasul won and became a world champion.

The desire of Teymur Mammadov, who was fighting in 91kg weight category and beat Emmanuel Anderson (Barbados), Joseph Darmos (Hungary), Jose Gomez Larduet (Cuba), Xuanxuan Wang (China), was postponed to 2 years. Thus, our 18-years old European champion was beaten by Ukrainian Alexander Usik. Our boxer was beaten in all three rounds (6:7, 6:11, 3:7).

Mahammadrasul Majidov, who was fighting in +91kg weight category, won a gold medal and became a world champion. In previous fighting he beat Sardor Abdullayev (Uzbakistan), Isaia Mena Parraya (Colombia) and Erislandi Saboya (Cuba). In the final fighting he beat Anthony Joshua from England and became a wo), Isaia Mena Parraya rld champion. Azerbaijan could not win a gold medal in the world championships for 8 years. The last gold medal was won by Aghasi Mammadov in 2003.

9 Azerbaijani boxers participated in the world championship. Except Mammadov and Majidov, Elvin Mamishzadeh (52kg) and Heybatulla Hajaliyev (64kg) won a license to London-2012.

Yevgeni Kototv’s pupils Salman Alizadeh (49kg), Rahim Najafov (56kg), Elvin Isayev (60 kg), Emil Ahmadov (69kg) and Ramil Aliyev (81kg) couldn’t win a title and license because of unsuccessful participatin in the boxing championship.
