Russian PEN Center refuses to attend literature festival in Azerbaijan because of Akram Aylisli

Baku. Anakhanum Hidayatova – APA. The executive committee of Russian Pen center has refused to attend the international book forum and literature festival in Baku and Ganja on May 3-5.

APA reports that the organization has justified its decision as protest against Akram Aylisli’s “persecution”.

“Respecting the culture and centuries-long traditions of the Azerbaijani people and supporting just only this culture and traditions, but not tyranny and fanaticism, we refuse to attend the International Book Forum to protest against the writer’s prosecution.”

Open Central Asia Book Forum & Literature Festival 2013 dedicated to the 900th anniversary of Mahsati Ganjavi will be held in Baku and Ganja on May 3-5. The forum is organized by Silk Road Media and Hertfordshire Press (UK) in cooperation with Nizami Ganjavi International Center.
