The number of people released from arrest has increased by 28% over the past year in Azerbaijan


The number of people released from arrest has increased in Azerbaijan,  it was announced at a collegial meeting of the Ministry of Justice, chaired by Minister Fikret Mammadov, APA reports.

 

It was noted that as a result of the implementation of the instructions and recommendations set forth in Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's order "On streamlining activities in the penitentiary sphere, humanizing the policy of punishment, as well as expanding the use of alternative types of punishment and procedural coercive measures not related to isolation from society" February 2017, compared to the first half of last year, the number of arrested persons admitted to pre-trial detention centers decreased by 25%, and the number of people released from arrest increased by 28%.

 

In addition, the number of protests against sentences on various grounds was significantly reduced, in particular, in connection with the relief of punishment.

 

The meeting held an extensive presentation on the work performed within the framework of the execution of the order, additional instructions were given in connection with the precise, organized and timely execution of all measures provided for in the order.

 

The meeting also heard detailed reports on other areas of activity of justice bodies in the first half of the year.
