First lunar eclipse to occur on February 11

The first lunar eclipse will occur on February 11, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told APA.

Then the comet 45P/New Year comet will whoosh past as it makes its closet approach to Earth.

Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the moon and sun, blocking out the sun's light and casting a shadow on the surface of the moon. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun, as seen from Earth. A partial solar eclipse can be observed when the Earth, Moon and Sun do not align in a perfectly straight line, and the Moon only partially covers the disc of the Sun.

The eclipse will be visible from Europe, Africa and Western Asia.
