Azerbaijani parliament passes bill on protecting children from harmful information


Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (parliament) on Tuesday discussed a bill on the protection of children from harmful information.  

 

Aghiya Nakhchivanli, MP, chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on family, woman and children affairs gave information about the bill.

 

She noted that the bill was proposed by the President of Azerbaijan. “If the bill is approved, it will come into force from 1 January 2020,” the MP added.

 

The bill consists of 5 paragraphs and 19 articles.

 

According to the bill, it is prohibited to information among children that promote violence and cruelty, antisocial and illegal actions, affect the family institution and contain unethical language, pornographic content.

 

Information limited to certain age groups include information showing violence and cruelty, content in obscene language, frightening information, and erotic content.

 

After the discussions, the bill was put to the vote and approved.
