Azerbaijan registers 390 HIV-positive people in 2017


In the first nine months of 2017, 390 HIV-infected people were registered in Azerbaijan, the working group of the State Commission Countering Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking told APA.

 

According to the working group, 385 (97.7%) of them are Azerbaijani citizens, while 5 (2.3%) are foreign nationals.

 

In general, 6,575 HIV-positive people were registered at the Republican AIDS Center from the first time of detection of the infection in Azerbaijan in 1987 till October 1, 2017, the working group said. “Of them, 6,364 (96.7%) are Azerbaijani citizens and 211 (3.3%) are foreigners. Some 4,817 (73.7%) HIV-positive people are men, while 1,758 (26.3%) of them are women.”

 

The working group said that 3,029 out of 6,575 HIV-positive people were infected through injecting drug use.

 

“Some 2,230 (74.2%) of them have been registered in dispensary. The total number of HIV-infected persons who was involved in Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) till October 1, 2017 was 4,024. Integrase inhibitors (INIs) were revealed in 1,760 out of them. 106 out of 486 patients involved in were diagnosed Antiretroviral Therapy in the nine months were diagnosed with integrase inhibitors,” added the working.
