Azerbaijan presents report at Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction


A report, titled “policy of responding to disasters and reducing risks in the past decade”, was presented at the Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction – 2017 that kicked off in Baku on Oct. 2.

 

The report was presented by Jalil Guliyev, head of the department on providing security of population at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, APA reported.

 

The Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction – 2017 was jointly organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Asian Disaster Reduction Center, and Japan’s Cabinet of Ministers.  

 

J. Guliyev said the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which was established in 2005, is assigned with serious duties, noting that there are nine regional centers of the Crisis Management Center for the prevent of emergencies and elimination of their consequences.

 

He said that the Ministry of Emergency Situations has developed mutual actions plans that regulate its joint activities with relevant ministries and agencies.

 

Guliyev emphasized that a modern infrastructure has been created to increase the efficiency of rescue operations in water basins. “At the same time, the experience of foreign countries is also studied in these areas,” he added.

 

Guliyev said that the Ministry of Emergency Situations has an international search and rescue team equipped with aircraft and helicopters, and this team participated in the elimination of consequences of natural disasters in Russia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries.
