Russian citizen Marat Ueldanov arrested on drug charges in Azerbaijan standing trial

The preliminary investigation into the criminal case of Marat Ueldanov, a Russian citizen of Armenian origin, who was arrested in Azerbaijan on drug charges, has been completed.

The case has been sent to the Baku Court of Grave Crimes for consideration, APA has learned.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26.

Russian citizen Marat Ueldanov was detained in Baku on July 28 last year on charges of drug trafficking.

After that, Armenian media and pro-Armenian media outlets based in Russia released information in reference to Ueldanov’s sister Marianna Mirzoyan that Ueldanov was allegedly detained for his Armenian national identity. His sister says that Marat had adopted his spouse’s surname.

“His real surname was Galustyan. It’s alleged that he was detained for being Armenian and spying for Armenia,” she said.
