Azerbaijani MP calls for revival of death penalty

Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Azerbaijani MP Elmira Akhundova has voiced her concern over the growing domestic violence in the country, calling for the revival of death penalty.

The statistics suggest that women are facing growing violence from their husbands, she said addressing the parliament’s plenary session on Tuesday.

“Such people must be sentenced to life in prison. Those who commit grave crimes, behead their wives, and rape children are punishable by death in other countries. Why not in Azerbaijan?” added the MP.

Vice-Speaker Bahar Muradova remarked that there is no need to go back and revive death penalty.
