Europe avoids solution to migrant crisis – top Azerbaijani official

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Azerbaijan managed to solve the problem of one million refugees at that time its population was nearly eight million, however, today, Europe, with a population of nearly 500 million, avoids a solution to the problem of one million migrants, Novruz Mammadov, deputy head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, chief of the Administration’s foreign relations department, said on March 11.

He made the remarks during the ‘Migration, multiculturalism and the issue of integration’ panel, held as part of the 4th Global Baku Forum.

Mammadov urged Europe not to avoid its responsibility.

“In which countries has the situation changed better after the intervention? If there is a fair approach, the interests of the European Union, the United States and other great powers can be met in a better way. Some states don’t want to take responsibility. European countries must first become aware of their responsibility to understand the essence of the problem and only then to express their positions. It does not make sense to talk about human rights and other issues in the absence of a fair approach,” he added.
