TeliaSonera to leave Azerbaijani market by year-end

TeliaSonera Holding BV, which is shareholder of Azercell Telekom LLC, is planning to leave Azerbaijani market by the end of this year, Kaan Terzioğlu, the Chief Executive Officer at Turkcell, said.

According to him, Fintur Holding BV, which manages TeliaSonera Holding BV’s assets in Eurasia, plans to complete the process of leaving the markets in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Moldova by the end of this year.

 

Fintur Holding BV’s authorized capital is $538 million, and 41.45% of its shares is held by Turkcell, 58.55% by TeliaSonera.  

 

TeliaSonera Holding BV’s assets in Eurasia (Azercell - Azerbaijan), (GeoCell - Georgia), (KCell - Kazakhstan) and (MoldCell - Moldova) are managed by Fintur Holdings.

 

TeliaSonera Holding BV earlier stated that it would gradually leave the Eurasian markets. The company said it is tired of corruption scandal in the local markets. The holding has already sold its assets in Nepal and Uzbekistan.
