Banks’ capital position remaining sensitive to external shocks - FIMSA

“In 2016 the bank assets declined 10% in Azerbaijan. But, now the situation is stable”, Rustam Tahirov, Head of Prudential policy division at the Financial Market Supervision Authority of Azerbaijan said at the 6th Annual Fitch Ratings Conference in Azerbaijan.

According to him, individual deposits declined, business savings increased: “Decline in the deposits is not related to lack of confidence in the banking sector. It is related to meeting of demands of the low-income people. But now the situation is stable”.

He also spoke about the capital position of the banks: “Banks’ capital positions are still remaining sensitive to external shocks. We think the banks should continue their capitalization policy”.
